Finishing wood surfaces can be tricky and time-consuming, and all that effort and time may not yield the beautiful product envisioned at the start. Great Wood Finishes is written by an expert in the field to help the occasional finisher/refinisher or hobbyist woodworker avoid that problem. The book uses simple instructions and a wealth of illustrations to make the process easy and rewarding.
Great Wood Finishes begins with a thorough discussion of tools and materials. It moves on to instructions and photo essays covering every technique, including staining, glazing, and rubbing out. The final section, primarily photos and captions, covers specialty finishes that can easily be created by combining the techniques presented earlier in the book.

Good information. Been finishing wood for 30 years, and looking for a reference book that can help me keep things straight.

Very nice layout. Great pictures. Jeff knows what he is talking about. I do lots of woodworking, but not much refinishing, and this book as been a great help.

This was the book I was looking for. I work with a lot of different type of woods and this book makes finishing of woods understandable and easy. A must have book for those who want perfect finishes.

I have only just scratched the surface (no pun intended) of the information in this book but it's been a great introduction to wood finishing. Before this book what I knew about wood finishing I had read off the cans of stain I had bought. This book did a great job of laying out all the different products available for finishing wood. Plus how to properly prepare the surface and which tools to use. Now when I go to the hardware store, I know what I need to buy for my intended result. This book gave me a big boost in confidence to try finishing techniques I wouldn't have considered before.

Great guide for specific techniques, I used one of the recommended finishes for Cherry and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I never would have tried a dye stain under a glaze without this book.
