I bought this puzzle for my 2 year old who loves vehicles. We have several Melissa and Doug 12 pc. puzzles and this one is his favorite.
The puzzle is durable and he can complete it independently.

My 4 year old son got this puzzle and another M&D puzzle last week for his birthday. The graphics are wonderful, but that's all the good things I can say about them. The pictures are already starting to come off of the pieces, the pieces are really hard to get apart, and there are wood fragments coming off this puzzle like crazy. The ends of the pieces are sharp and it gives me the willies to touch them because of the wood shards that are sticking out of the pieces and board. I would have a cardboard puzzle over these any day.

A decent starter puzzle. Would give it 5 stars if the image was also imprinted on the frame so that our son (age 2) could use it as a guide to match the pieces as he tries to put it back together.

We love the Melissa and Doug toys and have bought many. We generally find them to be of good quality construction and durable, as well as engaging and educational.
However, we purchased this and the Africa Plains 24 piece puzzle for our grandson for Christmas. When we removed the shrink wrap and started to separate the pieces, the bottom and top laminate layers on the edges of several pieces immediately peeled and/or snapped off. (One of our grandkids puts everything in her mouth and I could see these puzzle pieces causing a hazard if she picked one up.)
We really like the Melissa and Doug toys and have had great experiences with most of them. I'm hoping that this problem is just a fluke with a bad batch of glue; but this happened with 2 different puzzles. I've emailed them to ask them to investigate.
